PROJECTs

The professional preparation, visualization and media presentation of medical - and especially neuroscientific - contents constitutes the core element of our work. Within the scope of our ‘Brain Projects’, we introduce this special knowledge in order to present in a science-related and user-oriented way the innovative therapeutic methods, research approaches or medical products of our partners. Combining medical expertise and technical creative-competence, we develop sophisticated designs that we implement with our partners and make available for practical use.

The mandibular joint and occlusion are involved in various ways in different pain syndromes. Originating from misalignments in this structure, dysfunctions in the entire musculoskeletal system can occur in the form of a descending disorder-specific dynamic. Conversely, an ascending disturbance dynamic can have an influence on the craniomandibular system.

As part of an international research project under the direction of the orthodontist and medical developer Dr. Gernot Heine, the sub-components of modern dentistry, dynamic orthodontics, manual medicine and sophisticated dental technology are brought together to form a holistic, practical approach; and the stores of generated knowledge and the scientifically-refuted therapeutic processes are translated into technical tools. By making years of research work available for practical use in this way, a new dimension opens up in dentistry and orthodontics which is technically supported, and at the same time offers customised functional diagnostics and therapy.
As a partner, we support the development of scientific questions and methods. On a theoretical-conceptual level, we are entrusted with the development and visualization of functional-neuroanatomical models that depict the complex interaction of neuropsychological, neuro-muscular, neuro-fascial and atherogenic interrelations. In close cooperation with the medical developers Dr. Gernot Heine and Jörg Forsbach, a modern science- and communications-design is being developed that efficiently supports the transformation of theory into practice.

SmartFoot: From Natural Walking to Healthy Posture

The SmartFoot project focuses on foot health and in so doing, the closely-related healthy posture of humans. As a result of decades of observation and therapeutic experience, the world's first standardized footbed was developed. Product development is thereby based on the latest expertise and research findings in neurophysiology and sensomotorics.
In this project we support our partner Dr. Christoph Bäumer M.D., specialist for orthopaedics, osteopaths and medical developer, in the conception of scientific analytical methods and the development of a professional communications-design for the resulting medically-innovative product range.

Depression Study at the PMU Salzburg

At the Christian-Doppler Clinic, part of the SALK and University Hospital of the Paracelsus Medical Private University, we tried to answer the following questions within the framework of a high-density EEG study: How do the brain regions correlated with depression behave under certain stimulation conditions? What are the specific frequency patterns exhibited by the brain areas involved? How and of what magnitude is the dys-connectivity (increased and/or decreased connection strength) between the areas due to depression? Is it possible to visualize changes in the above-mentioned measured values after a therapeutic intervention?

Different models try to map the causes of depression. One hypothesis is that pathological neuronal connectivity, i.e. the way in which different brain areas functionally interconnect, may be involved in the development of depressive symptoms. This hypothesis was pursued by our research team at the Institute of Synergetics and Psychotherapy Research. The team: Primary Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Aichhorn (overall management), Prof. Dr. Günter Schiepek (research management), Dr. Dr. Damir del Monte (studies management), Dr. Hans Menning (analysis) and Prof. Dr. Anna Buchheim and Dr. Karin Labek as partners for the co-investigation of the aspects of binding. The analysis of the data proves to be very complex, as very large amounts of data were collected. We are providing information about the results.
